The beginning of my surfing journey
When Michelle and I first got together in 2001, one of the things she had promised herself she would do when she turned 40 was to learn to surf.
At that time I was surfing using a boogie board and before that I body surfed using a handboard and flippers.

It transpired that a neighbour of ours had a 7' 6" Mini Mal and I took up his generous offer to let me use it to see if I could learn to stand up surf.
However, I was very overweight and unfit and many years ago I destroyed the anterior cruciate ligament in my right knee which means it is pretty unstable and I was no longer able to play squash or tennis anymore. So although keen, I was not confident but determined to give it a shot all the same!

Well, seven boards later, I am now a committed and passionate surfer.
It has been an incredibly challenging and hugely rewarding process. I consider that it has been one of the most important activities I have ever participated in as the personal benefits I have gained have been immense! One of the reasons I have been successful is I have had Michelle as a surf buddy who has also persevered and is as keen and passionate as I am.
Our life is organised around the opportunity to surf!
